Waistcoat
On this 3 day course students will learn to make a full waistcoat, with the choice of 3 different styles for either Men's or Womenswear. Anyone who doesn't quite finish by the end of the course will leave with all the materials and instructions to finish their garment at home.

Day 1:
- Intro to traditional tailoring and styles of waistcoats
- Understanding pattern adaptation for mens or womens, style details such as lapels and pocket types, and shape of front edge
- Fabric selection; discussion on traditional uses, modern variations and style preferences. Students are welcome to bring their own fabric, or can choose from a selection available.
- Taking measurements, adapting patterns & cutting cloth
Day 2:
- Preparation techniques; mark stitching the cloth and preparing trimmings
- Pocket making; learn to make welt pockets with samples, and then progress to inserting them into the waistcoat
- Construction; canvassing foreparts, making lapels, machining facings
Day 3:
- Lining; learn how to bag out the lining and insert strap & buckle to the back
- Finishing techniques; learn how to hand finish the waistcoat with edge stitching, felling and either hand sewn or machined buttonholes.
If students complete their waistcoat ahead of time there will be the opportunity to create samples of styles they did not create or learn other traditional techniques

-This course is intermediate level, for people who already have some sewing skills but want to learn something new and add to their skills.
- Classes start at 10:00 and finish at 16:00 with a 1hr lunch break

- Materials and tools provided, students are welcome to bring their own fabric for the waistcoat
- Each student will make their own waistcoat in full

The school and studio have recently moved.
We are now located in Ardwick, tucked away behind Ardwick green. A ten minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly station and accessible by bus routes from Manchester and Stockport on the 192 bus service. Parking is available at the rear of the building or local street parking.
